The Little Blue Roost Chronicles: Chicks, Pigs, and Pastures, Oh My!

Hey there, farm-friends and feathered-fans! It's your favorite farmer here with the latest scoop from the Little Blue Roost. Hold onto your straw hats because we've had quite the whirlwind of happenings lately!

First things first, let's talk about our little bundles of joy. No, not the ones we humans create—though we're pretty joyful too—but the fluffy, chirping kind. That's right, we've officially become proud parents to seven adorable baby chicks, hatched out just this February. Trust me, they're cuter than a bucket of ducklings in a rain puddle!

All of the chicks hatched from Big Blue, aka Big Daddy, have his super fluffy feet!

Now, speaking of chicks, we've got some exciting news for our pullets (that's fancy farmer talk for young hens). They're packing their bags and moving on to greener pastures... well, more like a cozy coop at a dear family friend's place, where they'll be pampered and spoiled rotten. Don't worry, we've made sure to include instructions for bedtime stories and extra cuddle time.

But wait, there's more! We've decided to add a splash of color to our egg carton rainbow by introducing three new Whiting True Blue chicks to our flock. Get ready for sky-blue eggs that'll make you want to dance a jig every morning!

Meet Bluey… one of three Whiting True Blue Chicks added to our personal flock. She is probably the coolest chick I have raised to date! (Fingers Crossed she remains a she….)

Now, onto our newest additions—the kune kune pigs. Yep, you heard that right, pigs have officially joined the party at the Little Blue Roost. Now, pigs might be a first for us, but they're certainly not unfamiliar territory. Gerard's father, the previous owner of Solid Rock Ranch, was practically a pig-whisperer. With a lineage like that, we're pretty confident we'll be oinking like pros in no time.

Why kune kune pigs, you ask? Well, besides their adorable snouts and wiggly tails, they're smaller, friendlier, and as easy-going as a hammock on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Plus, when you've got a pint-sized animal enthusiast running around (looking at you, kiddo), you need all the chill vibes you can get.

In other news, we've been doing some serious land clearing lately. Picture this: majestic oaks stretching their limbs without being crowded by pesky cedars. It's like watching nature do the tango—a little pruning here, a little clearing there, and voilà! More room for everyone to spread their roots.

And finally, let's talk farm stand dreams. Sure, it's a work in progress, but Rome wasn't built in a day, right? We're still knee-deep in the formation phase, navigating the twists and turns of becoming bona fide business owners. But hey, challenges are just opportunities in overalls, and we're ready to roll up our sleeves and bring you the freshest, local goodies this side of the county line.

Construction continues on the Little Blue Roost!

So there you have it, folks—the latest chapter in the ongoing saga of the Little Blue Roost. From fluffy chicks to snuffling pigs, we're living the farm life to the fullest. Stay tuned for more adventures, mishaps, and maybe even a recipe or two. Until next time, keep clucking and oinking on, my friends!
